Playing as a Barbarians team - a combination of players from Rosslyn Park and Weybridge Vandals started their Waterfall Cup campaign on Park's wide open (and dry) 3G pitch in Roehampton. Some of the boys had met each other one before at a training session in January but for a lot of them it was the first time they competed in a team together. The pitch suited them and they set about their job and attacked the wide open spaces with relish. Pierre set the tone with an almost length of the field try, and after a short time it was clear that they were starting to play as a team and played some great attacking rugby. As a result they scored some fantastic tries. Tom picked up a couple, I think Fin got one in the centre. It was impossible to keep up with all the try scorers but special mention of Aiden who scored a hat trick on one wing and Bobby who scored in his first game in more than 2 years on the other wing.
Irish battled hard throughout and offered a huge challenge up front and deserved more than the 2 tries they scored. With the final whistle the team gathered together in a circle and said how much they enjoyed the game and being in a team with each other. Their selflessness and attacking spirit gave them this impressive result. Onwards to the next game against the Surrey Barbarians team which we think is a combination of Sutton and Epsom/Warlingham.
