Owls 24 – Ealing 40
Tries –Clarkey 2,Randal 1,Barry 1
Floodlit rugby returned to Brownarcres on Friday evening as the Owls hosted Ealing. We had the odd drop out/no show but still fielded a strong squad of 22. Despite the score line it was a very enjoyable hard fought game where we scored 4 tries for the second time this season and spent far more time in their 22 then they did in ours. The key point of difference between the teams was their very quick/very young winger (where can I hire one of those)who ran in three tries from their own half following turnover ball when we were attacking. Despite being behind on the scoreboard our heads never dropped and at times we played some outstanding rugby. We had the same ref as the Harlequins game and he felt we played a lot better against Ealing.
Highlights;
- Some swashbuckling counter attacking from Scooby, Sugrue and Brooksy.
- Two tries from Clarkey who had a great game using his big forward runners to great effect.
- Howard turning back the clock at blindside with one particular smash from a kick-off where he drove their catcher back 15 m
- Our pushover try where we brought on Mark “The refrigerator” Willett to add his weight to what had been evenly contested scum contest up to that point. Clarkey poaching the try from Randal.
- The power cut which saw everyone having to shower and get changed by iphone torchlight.
Despite all these positives and a good team spirit we are still looking for our first win of the season!!!!!!!! This coming Saturday we get to put that right when we head over to local rivals Old Pauline’s. Pauline’s haven’t fulfilled a fixture yet this season and will have been targeting the game against us to get their season on the road.
Let’s take a strong squad over to Thames Ditton and record our first win.
Keep Cheers
