WEYBRIDGE VANDALS 2nd XV 54 LIGHTWATER 19
A brilliant second half performance from vandals 2nd XV Gave them a comprehensive victory over a Lightwater side who had proved stubborn opposition up until half time and who at one time were leading the opposition up until half time, and who at one time were leading by 14pts to 7pts. But with vandals drawing level before the interval they gradually won the possession and territory to stamp their authority on the gate and run in several tries.
Lightwater capitalised on a turnover to run in an early score, but with scrum half Dan Wellden prompting his side, vandals were quickly on level terms with winger Luke Phair sprinting over for the try for a Wellden conversion. Lightwater were quick to respond to restore their lead, but Vandals were not behind for long as Wellden stole the ball at the base of the scrum to feed his fly half Tom Bolger for the try. The game remained equally balanced until half time but vandals quickly took control after the break.
The seond half started with lock Anthony Tyrrell making a strong run and from an attacking lineout his fellow lock Richard Crabb powered over for the try which Wellden converted. Quality possession from set piece saw Bolger over for a further score, and then a break out defence with winger Phair again involved set up a try for the hard working Prop, Jack Woodhouse. Lightwater struck back with a well worked try. But Vandals were soon back on the attack with Stuart Howkins showing his elusive skills to touch down for another try, Wellden Converted. It was all vandal now and Lightwater had no answer to vandals relentless pressure which brought a second try for Bolger and a well earned score for lock Tyrrell. The final score 54-19 was a strong reflection of Vandals overall supremacy.
