Vandals prepped and ready for Havant challenge

Vandals prepped and ready for Havant challenge

Stuart Amos

Assistant coach Joe Spencer hopeful Vandals can put in a performance to erase memory of Tottonians

Assistant coach Joe Spencer says the return of some horse power in the Weybridge Vandals pack could make for an exciting first trip to Havant RFC on Saturday.

Mike Mason, Robbie Dones and Richie Crabb start at number eight, hooker and second row respectively, while Callum Hennessy is named on the bench for the trip south to face the National League Two East club's second string.

Harry Weatherall skippers the team from fly half with Sam Bullett and Tom Bolger paired in the centres to give a more familiar look to a backline that leaked 10 tries in last week's 64-11 defeat to Tottonians.

Havant IIs claimed he Hampshire Counties One title at a canter in 2025 - racking up 1,302 points in a perfect 22-game winning campaign - before finishing seventh in last season's Regional Two South Central table.

They've started this term with two wins and two defeats and could present an altogether different challenge to the Brownacres outfit with their first team enjoying a rest from league action on Saturday.

But Spencer, who highlighted Havant's ambition to get the ball wide, is confident his men will be ready to fight fire with fire and as they bid to secure a first away league win of the season.

"Last weekend was a tough one to take. Tottonians were a really strong side," he said this week.

"The result didn't go our way at all, but I was very pleased with how the lads stuck at it and gave it all they could until the final whistle. That was great to see.

"Havant is a new challenge for us and the club. We've got a few lads returning to the fold, which is a real boost for the boys and it will be exciting to see them take to the field.

"We are looking forward to the challenge of putting last week behind us. The boys are prepped and hopefully we get back to the rugby we know we are capable of."

Team: Thomas, Dones R, Hempstead, Crabb, Thornley, Caines, Hall, Mason; Josse, Weatherall H (C), Brander, Bullett S, Bolger, Wilson, Krikorian. Subs: Keefe, Hennessy, O'Mara.
