Head coach George Pickersgill will host specialist skill-specific monthly sessions covering scrums, counter attack, defence, passing, kicking and more, with a view to creating a more collaborative approach to coaching on Desborough Island.

The programme, which kicked-off on Wednesday September 9, is designed for coaches of all age groups and will provide a platform for the flow of ideas, expertise and best practice throughout the rugby section - from seniors to minis and back.

It is hoped the initiative will help deliver a coherent and collaborative coaching strategy and provide better support for those starting their coaching journey at the club.

Rugby chair Mark Baxter said: "This is not just about somebody standing at the front and telling you how to coach.

"It is a chance to share ideas, discuss what is working, raise issues and learn from each other.

"We have some very experienced coaches within Vandals, and we need to make better use of that experience across every age group. Equally, our senior coaching team need to understand the challenges our junior coaches face.

"It is about supporting each other and creating more consistency in the way we coach and develop players."

The hour-long sessions will take place at Brownacres on the second Wednesday of the month at 7pm, throughout the season.

Coaches who attend six or more sessions will receive a Weybridge Vandals Coach Development Certificate.
