Weybridge Valkyries U14s took their first steps of the new season with a trip to Staines on Sunday, where they took centre stage on the first team pitch at The Reeves.

The squad, coached by Vandals' Matt Smith, Ian Taylorson and Michelle Taylorson and featuring players from our cluster clubs Reeds Weybridge and London Irish, hit the ground running as they finally got the chance to play some full-throttle contact rugby.

Last season the U14s reached the final of the Surrey Cup and the latest cohort are preparing to go one better with the inclusion of last year's U12s Surrey champions. Click here to see photos of the U14s action at Staines

Meanwhile, Weybridge Valkyries' newest U12s squad got their season up and running as they stepped out at the Wimbledon Girls Rugby Festival on the same day.

The team, which now incorporates our U11 girls, headed to the scene of last season's U12s Surrey Cup triumph and acquitted themselves well.

Plenty of tries were scored on a fantastic day for running rugby as the girls broke down old rivalries to team up with our cluster clubs in a competitive environment for the first time.

The girls have been training hard in recent weeks and are coming to the end of their September training block at Reeds before they move on to take up residence at Sunbury for October.

The U16s travel to Guildford to take on Guilberley (Guildford & Camberley cluster) in their first friendly of the season.

All our squads have welcomed new players in recent weeks, buyt we can strengthen further. The girls training on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings across our three venues - Vandals, London Irish and Reeds Weybridge.
