On Saturday 26th April the club at very short notice hosted the Surrey Rugby senior finals day.
A massive thank you to all the brilliant Vandals volunteers who gave up their time to support this event and those who supported our “Island Rocks” floodlit mini festival on the Friday evening. I always think you can judge the spirit of a club by its volunteers and whether it was barbecuing, parking cars or setting up the pitches I think we absolutely smashed. Thank you to everyone who helped make both events a big success.
I also want to say how proud I was of our Super 2s for showing real resilience and character to win an epic Surrey 2s Cup final against Guildford. The game was a tight affair throughout with Vandals playing Guildford 2s who are in the league above our team. the game was a real highlight to the camaraderie that the 2s have. The teams set piece worked well with some strong driving mauls from the lineout. The backs moved the ball quickly into the wide channels to exploit the space. The game was won 29-22 with Micky D scoring the winning try in the last minute in his last game for his beloved Super 2s before he moves to Norfolk.
I was also incredibly proud of my Owls brothers who to a man couldn’t have given any more in their defeat against a very strong Sutton & Epsom side in the Surrey Vets Cup final. This is the third successive year our Owls have appeared in the Vets Surrey cup final in what has been another brilliant season for them.
