Weybridge Vandals was officially open for the business of rugby on Sunday with the club shop also making a welcome return after last week's successful working party session.

The Minis and Junior sections all returned at full strength as the club's grass roots flooded the now lush pitches of Brownacres after last week's soft launch.

Our newest members, the Micros, got stuck in on the first team pitch, while there were plenty of new faces to welcome to the club's playing and coaching teams across the section.

Despite the hectic schedule, Vandals Minis chair Aaron Collins made time to lend shop manager Sally Emmas a hand as many members realised their kids had grown out of a number of items over the summer.

The shop, open every Sunday morning during the season when the Minis are in town, remains a vital source of revenue for the club and contributes towards keeping the cost of new kit down.

"One of the great traditions at Vandals is the recycling of good quality second hand minis and junior kit and boots that we then sell in the club shop," explained President Kevin Keaney, who celebrated his 60th birthday yesterday.

"This second hand kit scheme helps keep the price of new kit in the shop close to cost.

"If you have any Vandals kit or old boots that no longer fit your child then please wash them, put them in a bag a drop off at the club and our shop team will take it from there."

If you are looking for a bargain it is not uncommon to find nearly new boots available in all sizes with pairs available from as little as £5.

Senior rugby, postponed for two weeks due to the hard ground, is set to kick-off on September 26 when the first team entertain Guildford for their first Regional Two South Central clash of the season.

The match coincides with our first Matchday Lunch of the campaign - the Memorial Lunch. It is expected to be a very emotional day as we remember a number of Vandals we have lost in the last 12 months.
