Dear Vandal family
Put simply: No Ref, No Rugby.
We currently have 7 qualified referees serving our entire club. To ensure every fixture goes ahead seamlessly and to take the pressure off our current team, our goal this season is to double that pool to 15+ referees.
Our target is to have at least one qualified referee within every age group from U9s (our first year of tackle) right up to the Seniors. We fully recognise that everyone here is a volunteer with busy schedules, but spreading the load across all age groups makes a massive difference to the kids and the club.
Whether you are a coach, parent, or player looking to give back, we have clear pathways to get you qualified with full support:
RFU Ready2Ref Course: Replacing the old Level 1 qualification, this is the official course to get you certified. We will be holding at least two of these sessions at the club in the coming months.
LSRFUR "Take Up The Whistle" Course: Run directly by the London Society of Rugby Football Union Referees, this is a great practical entry route (future dates TBC).
In-House Training: If you're tempted to take up the whistle but want to build your confidence first, I will be running informal, in-house sessions to get you comfortable with the basics.
Incentives: We are currently finalising an incentive package to reward and support our match officials—details to follow soon!
Refereeing is one of the best ways to stay active, support your child's age group, and keep the game running.
