Mini & Junior Rugby update - April 2025

Stuart Howkins5 Apr - 06:44

Surrey Finals days, mini festivals and junior tours taking place throughout the month.

March was an incredibly busy month for our mini and junior sections.

Congratulations to the our fantastic Colts team who beat a strong London Welsh side 27-19 to win the Quin’s Gold Cup final last Sunday?

Beating the might of Richmond in the QF, London Irish in the SF and London Welsh in the Final is a fantastic achievement for this exciting young Vandals team. The future is bright.
Well done to all the players, coaches and parents on for making it happen. Everyone in the Vandals Familly is very proud of you.

Congratulations to our under 14s who run two teams the Apaches and the Comanches who both won their respective Waterfall Cup Finals on Sunday 16th March. I know all the parents and coaches are so incredibly proud of these boys and everything they have achieved this season.

Our under 16s who have also enjoyed a fantastic season on the pitch headed down to Bath on tour and were guests at the Bristol Bears vs Gloucester game. Apart from that even at under 16 level “What goes on on tour, stays on tour” but I’m pleased to say that everyone returned safely.

The other massive event for the club during March was our hosting of the under 15s Surrey finals day at Brownacres. This involved the huge logistical challenge of hosting 11 games, 22 teams and getting 100s of cars parked and getting them safely on and off the island throughout the day.

A big thank you to all our hard working volunteers whose efforts made our hosting of this under 15s Surrey finals a big success. Special thanks to our section chairs Stu Amos and Paul Stephen’s for stepping up and doing a great job organising.

It was a very proud day for the club, we have received loads of positive comments from all the visiting teams and Surrey Rugby have already asked if we will host again next season.

Finally The next BIG EVENT on the mini calendar is our legendary “The Island Rocks 3” Floodlit mini festival- Friday 25th April where we combine great rugby with great food /drink and great live music in the form of our legendary club band BIG TACKLE. ALL WELCOME.
