With a very competitive and entertaining game between Vandals under 22s vs Haliford Old Boys on Friday 22nd December. I’m delighted to report that the game really caught the imagination and our biggest crowd of the season came to the island to watch on the Friday evening before Christmas.
This was the inaugural Richard “Tabsy” Talbot Cup game played in memory of legendary Halliford deputy headmaster and former Vandals senior coach Richard Talbot. It was fitting then that the game finished 27-27 and the trophy was shared and we Tabsy would be looking down with a huge smile on his face.
It was wonderful to see so many of our university boys and their families back down the club and a very full marquee for the post match festivities including a slightly controversial 10 a side boat race won by Vandals follow a disqualification.
A big thank you to Stu Gulliver and Mark Josse for organising the fixture and to all our friends at Haliford School for making it happen. We look forward to this becoming an annual fixture.
Finally thank you to Kate O’Hanlon and her hard working bar team along with our Vandal volunteers for putting in a very big shift to keep everyone served and get the club cleaned up afterwards.
