Taking time out of his training schedule, Irish U20s international, Saunders took the club's minis age groups through a mixture of drills and matches before taking part in a question and answer session, posing for photos and signing autographs with the children.
Commenting on the visit, Niall Saunders said: “I still remember playing at that age and it’s great to see the enjoyment that the children get from playing rugby. “Every professional player starts their career running around at local clubs like this and there was lots of talent on display. Hopefully we will see some of these guys running out in a Harlequins shirt in the not too distant future.”
Alick Forrester the Mini Chair for Vandals added: “Niall Saunders was an inspiration to the children. Being so young, the kids felt his achievements were reachable. The coaches enjoyed his input, assisting with drills and giving words of advice to the children during match play, a very positive experience for all concerned. ”
Niall’s visit was organised through Weybridge Vandal's affiliated links with Harlequins and its community department. The Harlequins community team continuously strives to deliver innovative and exciting experiences which promote the game of rugby. The Club’s main aim is to bring the Community and Harlequins closer together, forming strong links through the game of rugby. Harlequins’ community programme has encouraged children from all over the UK to become regular visitors to the Twickenham Stoop and to continue to participate in both sport and further education.
