Former first team skipper Neil 'Spud' Allen hopes the Weybridge Vandals Christmas Golf Day is the first of many more after the once traditional event's return this year.
Ex-first team fly half Mark Seymour beat a 28-strong field of players - drawn from across the club's membership - to claim a memorable win on the Longcross course at Foxhills Golf Club on December 28.
His score of 37 was equaled by Phil 'The Meat' Brewer, but aging playmaker Seymour claimed the title on count back, despite Brewer - one of the booming junior section's dads - bagging one of two nearest the pin awards.
Toby Jalfrezi - not his real name - claimed the other, with Mark Powley producing the longest drive of the day.
Stuart Amos, playing in the day's final group, literally brought up the rear with a stunningly poor score of 10 to claim the wooden spoon.
A summer golf day, set to include a post-match meal at Brownacres, is already being planned for May with the Christmas event penciled in for 2016.
"The Christmas golf day was a tradition at the club and it was great to see it return to the calendar after a long absence," said Spud, who pulled the event together in the space of a month.
"We are looking to build on its success with another golf day at the end of May and hopefully the Christmas event can become a permanent fixture again."
Thanks go to former Foxhills club captain John Mottram for helping secure the venue at short notice.
