Ethan Baxter Day - Saturday 25th April

Stuart Howkins21 Mar - 08:24

Vandals will be holding a big intra club touch rugby tournament in Ethan’s name

With the blessing of the Baxter family the Rugby section committee have decided to designate Saturday 25th April as Ethan Baxter day. On that day we will be holding a big intra club touch rugby tournament in Ethan’s name.

The tournament will be open to Aiden Baxter’s under 15s age group up and it will be a wonderful opportunity for our young players to play alongside 1st XV players, Owls , coaches and even club Presidents. Our “Braii Boys” will be cooking an authentic South African Braii and we will be unveiling a very special tree in our memorial garden as a living memorial to Ethan.

Details relating to the intra club competition are being finalised but please save the date: Saturday 25th April

Ethans funeral took place last month, I can’t remember a more moving funeral as Weybridge town center came to a standstill as Ethan’s funeral cortège led by an RAF piper, his fellow air cadets and his family walked through Weybridge high streets where both sides of the road were lined by his schoolmates and hundreds of Vandals who had come to pay tribute to this remarkable young man. The service was incredibly moving and we were all in awe of the strength Mark and Aiden showed in paying tribute to Ethan.

There was a huge turnout back at the club for Ethan’s wake where Mark somehow found the strength to thank everyone, I read out our club memorial Poem “The Running Game” and we moved to the car park where we let off 160 purple, green and black helium balloons in Ethan’s honor.

As Club President I don’t think I have ever been prouder of the way everyone has rallied around to support the Baxter family and each other at this incredibly sad time as we all try to make sense of how this could have happened to such a beautiful young man and such a lovely family.
